IN CELEBRATION of International Nurses Day, people across the county have thanked nurses for their hard work.

Held annually on May 12, a date chosen to coincide with the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, Nurses Day acknowledges the invaluable role that nurses play in keeping people around the world, as healthy and independent as possible.

To celebrate the day, NHS South Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group has collated a number of comments and compliments, thanking nurses for their hard work and dedication to the job.

Lisa Levy, Interim Executive Nurse and Director of Quality for NHS South Worcestershire CCG, said: “It’s important that we recognise the expertise, dedication, and compassion of our nurses.

“As a nurse myself, I am delighted to say that we have some absolutely extraordinary nurses across the county. There are so many fantastic examples of staff going the extra mile to deliver the very best care for local patients.

“This annual event gives us a chance to celebrate their dedication and the difference they make to the lives of people in Worcestershire.”

In Worcestershire, nurses will be sending cakes to wards at The Worcestershire Royal Hospital, the Alexandra Hospital, Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre as an afternoon treat.

Jan Stevens chief nurse at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said: “Celebrating International Nurses Day is a great way to reflect on what makes us proud to be nurses and how our roles help and support patients and their families and carers.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to celebrate the work and professionalism of our nurses who are so dedicated to improving the health of people here in Worcestershire. Nursing is an extremely rewarding profession and much more than a ‘job’.

“I come to work to make a difference to staff and patients, ensuring our patients have the best possible experience. I am proud of the incredible effort our nursing teams make to provide expert, compassionate care every day, thank you.”
