ENERGETIC cyclists from Worcester have powered their way across Scotland and raised more than £20,000 for charity.

Eight fund-raisers from npower’s city offices took on the gruelling challenge of travelling coast to coast across the Scottish Highlands from Saturday October, 3 to Sunday October, 4, raising £21,498 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

As well as cycling the team canoed and hiked more than 100 miles, starting with a 1,344m hike to the summit of Ben Nevis, then through to the Fort William coast and onto Loch Ness, where they canoed through Loch Lochy, before cycling to Fort Augustus and finishing at Inverness Castle.

Npower will match the money raised pound for pound, taking the total pot to more than £42,000.

Npower’s Jo-Anne Yeomans, who took part in the challenge said: “This was the biggest challenge of my life. I found it really tough at times, both mentally and physically.

“I’m aching, tired and my legs are so sore from all the cuts and bruises thanks to me falling off my bike more than once.

“I’m amazed I managed to escape the hospital van but it was all worth it for the wonderful memories, new found friends and the fantastic amount raised for Macmillan.”

Clare McDougall, npower’s head of community said: “I’m so proud of each and every colleague who took part in this massive challenge for Macmillan.

“We had a mixture of abilities with some people who’d never canoed before and one who hadn’t ridden a bike since she was five.

“It was extremely tough at times, but we did it for friends and family members affected by cancer.”
