Paul following Uncle Idris’ lead with film acting role

A SECONDARY school pupil is set to follow in his famous uncle’s footsteps with a lead role in a TV film.

Bishop Perowne CE College student, Paul Omar Elkan Agyei, has been given the part of Akuna in King For a Term which will be shown on Sky.

The film is written and directed by Paul’s uncle Idris Elba, star of the hit BBC drama Luther and numerous Hollywood roles, and is based on the actors early years.

Akuna is the central figure who has asthma and has to move a specialist school for a term to receive more help.

The 12-year-old has been travelling back and forth from his home in Malvern to London where he is filming, along with his uncle who will play the father in the story.

Paul said: “Getting the part is really cool and hasn’t really sunk in yet. I am really into acting and find it all very exciting. It is also pretty hectic. I went to London one weekend to rehearse and they had changed the script and I had to learn it really quickly.

“It’s really cool and I would love to follow in my uncle’s footsteps and be an actor. I think he is great.”

Mark Pollard, headteacher at Bishop Perowne CE College, said: “I am delighted that such a talented young man as Paul is studying at the college, which has a first-class performing arts department, and that he is being recognised for his acting ability.

“I wish him good luck,” he added.
