Partnership is building futures

BUDDING builders, plumbers and electricians are benefitting from the support of construction staff at a Worcester development site.

The Building Block at Worcester Community Trust in Warndon, which offers training courses for the construction industry, has been given materials and a storage base by Sanctuary Homes.

Sanctuary Homes is donating surplus bricks, timber and utilities to the centre and has also supplied a large secure external storage unit for equipment.

The partnership is through Sanctuary’s MORE programme, which aims to connect with people in places where it is building new homes. Sanctuary Homes is currently delivering 34 new affordable homes at nearby Cranham Drive.

The Building Block, which has been open for just over five years, supports around 500 local people each year to develop and improve their building and DIY skills through Logic and City and Guilds accredited courses.

Among the beneficiaries is Kieran Field who now works for Sanctuary as a site labourer at Cranham Drive having trained at the Building Block.

Colleen Eccles, Head of Place Shaping at Sanctuary Homes, said: “The Building Block is an important resource because it enables people from the local community, such as Kieran, to access training for essential skills within the construction industry.

“It is fantastic to see how it is developing and I look forward to seeing this continue in the months ahead.”

Ruth Heywood, CEO at Worcester Community Trust, commented: “Being able to offer a range of services to both local people and businesses alike is something we are really proud of.

“We are very grateful to Sanctuary Homes for supporting us with these additional resources and the storage container, which will help us explore opportunities for growth.”
