A PARISH council has thanked the community for their efforts after a children’s playground was left severely damaged by a fire.
The recently refurbished play area, on Wadborough Road in Littleworth, suffered extensive fire damage on Tuesday night (September 6), which left a seesaw completely burned out and a large area of rubbing and fencing damaged.
Norton Juxta Kempsey Parish Council has said it is “extremely disappointed” by the incident which could have seen the entire play area and Parish Hall burnt down if not for a passing Parishioner who raised the alarm.
A spokesperson from the council said: “The council is extremely grateful to a passing Parishioner for raising the alarm, and calling the fire brigade, who arrived within minutes.
“The children’s play area had recently been totally refurbished by the Parish Council, with the help of local community volunteers and grant funding.
“Following the incident at the play area, the community has rallied around to make the remaining play area safe and open for children to enjoy.”
The Trustees of Norton Parish Hall have confirmed that the Macmillan Coffee Morning and charity Fun Day event will still go ahead on Saturday (September 17).
Police are appealing for witnesses and have asked anyone with any information to call police on 101 and quote incident number 125s of Wednesday 7 September.
