CATHEDRAL chiefs again grabbed their frying plans as the landmark’s annual Pancake Race returned for the first time since the pandemic began.

The entertaining way to mark Shrove Tuesday (March 1) took place over an obstacle course and around the Cathedral’s medieval cloisters.

The teams were made up of the two sides of the Cathedral Choir; Cantoris is led by the Precentor, and Decani is led by the Dean.

Team members battled a range of obstacles, all whilst dressed in cassocks and flipping real pancakes along the way.

The teams, each made up of choristers and Cathedral staff, raced around the cloisters to see who can complete the course in the fastest time, without dropping the pancake!

Students from King’s St Albans lined the cloisters to cheer them on.

And Team Decani avenged their pre-pandemic defeat by coming out on top to the delight of Dean of Worcester, Peter Atkinson.

“We’re so glad to be able to celebrate Shrove Tuesday with our annual pancake race this year.

“It was very disappointing to miss last year’s race, due to the lockdown, so it was wonderful to back out in our teams once again racing around the cloister!”
