STAFF and students at New College Worcester are celebrating after scooping an ‘outstanding’ in all areas for their residential care from Government inspectors.

The residential secondary school and college for students who are blind or visually impaired and students attend from Worcestershire and further afield.

Inspectors held meetings with the principal, senior care and teaching staff, governors and students and spoke to parents.

They spent two evenings in the residential accommodation and joined boarders for three meals in different parts of the college.

Staff were praised for ensuring student welfare was the top priority, young people felt safe, protected and valued and all learned essential independence skills while on campus.

Head of care Karol Keenan said: “Parents place their trust in us to look after their children, some of whom have had very difficult experiences at school before coming here, so it is fantastic to have the recognition their trust is being repaid with outstanding care.

Principal Nicki Ross paid tribute to the students and said: “Students arrive here with different life experiences and situations and it is their determination, optimism and vibrant personalities that make NCW the incredible place that it is.”

The school is due an educational Ofsted inspection later this year.
