BRAVE Oscar Saxelby-Lee has been released from hospital in Singapore after the six-year-old defeated T-Cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia for the second time in his young life.

Proud parents Olivia Saxelby and Jamie Lee shared the update on their Facebook page along with a pictures of the little boy who has captured the hearts of well-wishers in the city and beyond.

The joyous news came just 24 hours after the little boy once again was found to be cancer-free.

After a stem cell transplant from his dad Jamie, Oscar tackled a number of side effects as a result of his weakened immune system but is now well enough to leave the National University Hospital which has been home for him and his family since November last year.

While it’s unclear when the Oscar and his family will be able to return home to Worcester because of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Pitmaston Primary School pupil is now at the family’s temporary home.

Writing on Facebook, his proud parents said: “He’s only gone and done it. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to our amazing team at National University Hospital – NUH, you have made miracles happen!

“Oscar’s Army, and of course the incredible Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust, we love you all. Home Sweet Home, whenever it will be.”

Oscar and his family were supported by the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust in their fund-raising efforts to fund potentially life-saving Car-T cell treatment.

The six-year-old was only the second child in the world to receive this ground-breaking personalised treatment for T cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Up until now, it has only been available for children with the B-cell form of the disease.

Dr Jen Kelly, founder of the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust said: “This really is the most incredible news, and the team are so proud to have played a key role in helping Oscar make history as the second child in the world to receive this treatment.”

“Our thanks go to everyone who helped him get to Singapore – all the generous donors, Pitmaston Primary School, the Hand In Hand for Oscar team and everyone who helped in any way.

Oscar’s fight even drew the attention of ITV’s Pride of Britain awards team on Facebook who highlighted his incredible story of hope, courage and kindness.
