On location for all-star thriller

A THRILLER with an all-star cast is being filmed on the streets of Worcester.

Film Engine has chosen to produce its latest thriller, ‘Weapon’ – which is currently in production – in and around popular city venues.

The cast of 21 includes former Eastenders actress Caroline Patterson, who plays a hostel manager, and stars acclaimed actor Chris Hatherall as an ex-soldier, along with three Worcester residents appearing as extras.

The feature film is based on an ex-soldier coping with life after leaving the Afghanistan war-zone and the harsh realities he has to face.

St Paul’s Hostel was one of the locations for the film and allowed producers to create a feel for what life is like after leaving Afghanistan, and were provided with a free lunch from the hostel, with residents also starring in the film.

Scenes were also filmed in the Black Cherry club, Mode Bar, Worcester Norton Shooting Club and South Worcester Shooting Ground in Hanley Castle.

Producer Phil Taylor has been overwhelmed by the support of city residents during production. He said: “It’s great to film in the real environment and we have benefited from scenes being filmed across a few mile radius rather all over the UK.”

Director Simon Tate is from Powick and has been able use his local knowledge of Worcester to create the scenes.

The story will be split into two feature films – ‘Weapon’ and ‘Bullet In A Gun’ – with the second film still featuring scenes from Worcester.

Weapon is due to be released at the city’s Odeon cinema around Spring 2016, before being available on DVD.
