No cards but plenty of gifts for refuge

Worcester Editorial 22nd Dec, 2020   0

A ‘NO cards for Christmas’ collection pot has allowed West Mercia’s Police and Crime Commissioner to give presents to women who are facing Christmas in a refuge.

Instead of the PCC’s office exchanging Christmas cards, the team again decided to donate to charity.

This year’s collection for West Mercia Women’s Aid was further boosted by the local Sainsbury’s community pot and a kind member of the public who donated to the cause.

Gifts will be given to women who are in refuges across West Mercia over Christmas to make sure they can still enjoy it as much as possible.

John Campion, West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, said: “Many of the women will have escaped their previous living arrangements in haste, and not necessarily had the opportunity to take all their personal items, let alone think about sorting out Christmas presents.

“We hope these small gifts will bring some joy to their day despite their personal situation.”
