New Sands FC team offers friendship and support for men suffering baby loss

A NEW football support group in Worcester has been set up to support men affected by baby loss, either during pregnancy, birth, or shortly after.

The Sands United FC Worcester has been set up to address the often-overlooked emotional needs of men who have experienced the pain of baby loss.

Losing a child is an unimaginable heartache that can affect individuals and couples profoundly.

Sands United FC aims to offer a safe space for men to find solace, camaraderie, and support, whilst navigating the complex journey of grief and healing.

On average in the UK, 13 families a day suffer the heartbreak of losing their baby before, during, or shortly after birth – around 4,500 babies a year.

The charity, Sands, exists to support anyone affected by pregnancy and baby loss, to offer understanding, comfort, and a UK-wide network of support groups.

Ross Joyner, founder of Sands United FC Worcester said, “Sands United FC Worcester was set up out of our own personal experience with baby loss. After our beautiful daughter was born sleeping, I realised more support was needed for men.

“All too often there is a stigma that, as men, we need to be strong and look after everyone else, but in reality, we need people to look after us too.

“I wanted to create a safe and supportive space for men with similar experiences, who could come together, connect, support one another, and find strength in each other’s stories to heal together through the most difficult of times.”

The first Sands United FC Worcester session is set to take place at Perdiswell Leisure Centre on Wednesday, September 6 at 7pm.
