New president looks to next generation

Worcester Editorial 26th Jul, 2017   0

A LEADING Worcester agricultural law expert has been appointed president of the Worcestershire Law Society.

Alexandra Phillips, an associate and farming specialist at city law firm mfg Solicitors, is one of the youngest ever lawyers to hold the position at the historic legal group which has promoted and supported local lawyers for 176 years.

The 35 year-old has set out her vision for the year ahead following her appointment by pledging to give more support to Worcestershire’s next generation of lawyers and forging ‘meaningful’ links with local schools.

The Worcestershire Law Society was formed in 1841 by a group of 12 solicitors. The historic legal group promotes the county’s legal profession through events, seminars and fund-raising activities.

Alexandra said: “To become the Worcestershire Law Society’s new president is a tremendous privilege and I will do all I can to represent my firm and solicitors across the county in a positive way.

“It is a wonderful opportunity and gives me the chance to give something back after qualifying four years ago. Alongside the committee, I am putting together a clear plan for the next 12 months during which I want us to keep supporting local charities and offer a wider variety of training, events and seminars for our members.

“Perhaps most importantly, I want us to do more to bring the area’s younger lawyers into the fold and build meaningful links with local schools and colleges to help promote the legal sector to young people.”
