New medical room at Maggs Day Centre will aid the homeless

A NEW medical room helping homeless people in the city look after their health and well-being has been opened at Maggs Day Centre.

The Homeless Health Hub, a fully furnished medical room providing easy access to health services, is now available at the centre on the Deansway in Worcester, offering homeless people the opportunity to drop-in for a check-up and receive basic treatments, such as wound dressing.

Working with NHS South Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Farrier House Surgery to run the new venue, Maggs Day Centre’s newest addition will enable doctors and nurses to treat people using essential equipment as soon as possible.

The Homeless Health Hub was established to offer homeless people a drop-in service with a number of NHS and charity organisations, who provide services including substance misuse support and foot care.

Mel Kirk, Service Manager of Maggs Day Centre said: “We are really pleased that this service is now available, as it provides even easier access to health services for our clients.

“This new medical facility means that homeless people in Worcester have the opportunity to access basic treatments to look after their health and wellbeing much better.”

Dr Carl Ellson, Chief Clinical Officer for NHS South Worcestershire CCG, said: “This is a great addition to services that are available to improve the health and well-being of homeless people in Worcester.

“We’re continually looking at ways of making health services much more accessible for the homeless population within the city.”
