A NEW EXHIBITION has been launched at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum featuring artworks from the Worcester City collection.
Connections will be available on September 14 with the artwork having been selected by people based in Worcestershire.
The exhibition explores the idea that art evokes a different response from different people and asks visitors to reflect on their own perspectives.
Pre-Raphaelite painter John Collier’s ‘Clytemnestra’ (c. 1914) is one of the largest paintings in the collection and busy street scene ‘Market Day’ (1907) by William Frank Calderon will be on show at the exhibition.
It will run from September 14 and end on October 20 at the museum.
Opening day celebrations include free 10-minute ‘spotlight’ talks in the exhibition at 10.30 and 11.30am, and 1.30 and 2.30pm.
A free creative workshops for adults will take place on Fridays to increase mindfulness and mental wellbeing in participants.
Megan Keary, learning and outreach coordinator, who has led the project at Museums Worcestershire said: “It’s been fantastic to work with a variety of community groups to develop this exhibition.
“We’re looking forward to people to coming to visit to see old favourites and thinking about Worcester’s collection in new ways.”
It is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and is part of Art History Festival 2024 organised by the Association for Art History.
