INTREPID students and staff at New College Worcester are walking all the way to the North Pole this Christmas – at least virtually.
Step into Christmas will see the college community walk 4,500 miles – the distance from NCW all the way to Santa’s home.
The challenge officially begins on Sunday December 14, kicking off a week of festive fun and movement.
As part of the celebrations, staff and students will take part in a sponsored Christmas walk to Worcester Cathedral, where they will visit the NCW Christmas Tree, on display as part of the cathedral’s annual Christmas Tree Festival and adorned with handmade decorations crafted by the students.
There will also be a host of festive activities on campus to keep the steps.
Every step taken will help raise vital funds for NCW, supporting its work with children and young people who are blind or vision impaired. With no other external funding streams, events like Step Into Christmas make a huge difference in helping the college provide specialised equipment, enriching experiences, and a first-class learning environment.
This year, NWC is fundraising to support the cost of a new minibus.
NCW fundraising manager Emma Williams said: “Step Into Christmas is more than a festive challenge, it’s a chance for our whole community to come together and support something truly vital for our students. Every mile walked and sponsored helps us get closer to funding a new NCW minibus, an essential piece of equipment that enables our visually impaired young people to access learning opportunities, build independence, and experience the world beyond campus. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone stepping up to help make this a reality.”
