New College students embrace Warriors spirit

Rob George 16th Feb, 2017

STUDENTS from New College Worcester enjoyed an exciting trip to Sixways to find out more about playing professional rugby.

Worcester Warriors stars Sam Betty, Derrick Appiah, Ryan Bower, Sam Lewis, Afe Haisila Lokotui and Ben Fowles took time out of their busy training schedules to meet the students, teach them some training techniques and show them around the ground.

The tour included the indoor training area and the changing rooms, the Altitude Centre and a walk around the pitch and into the stands.

During the course of the afternoon, the group of 14 students had a go at drop kicks, tackling, cycling, lifting weights and boxing

They asked the players all about their training schedules, how they got into rugby and even how much money they earn

Activities co-ordinator at New College Worcester, Phil Bresnen, said “It is fantastic to build up a relationship with the Worcester Warriors, and really generous of them to give up their time to meet us and show us around.

“The whole visit was an absolute inspiration to our students – many of whom wouldn’t have had the opportunity before to talk to sports professionals and find out what it is all about.” he added.
