DRIVERS are keeping an eagle eye on petrol prices following the spike in the cost of living.
It comes as the price of petrol surged by nearly 5p a litre in the week which included the bank holiday break, according to the RAC
In a warning 180p a litre for petrol could soon be routine across the country, the motoring body said the average cost for a litre rose to a ‘frightening’ 177.88p on Sunday (June 5)
Oil prices remain high due to the war in Ukraine and sanctions to reduce Europe’s dependence on Russia.
In March, the government cut fuel duty by 5p a litre for a year, but the RAC has called for more help for motorists with either a further reduction or a VAT cut.
The most up-to-date average fuel prices from the RAC also revealed diesel is now on average 185.01p a litre.
