Music trust grant is music to Worcester Cathedral's ears

A MUSIC trust grant is music to Worcester Cathedral’s ears.

It has been awarded a grant of £24,500 by the Cathedral Music Trust, under the Cathedral Music Support Programme to recruit four professional sopranos and to support individual coaching for scholars and choristers over the next two years.

The grant is part of a funding boost by the CMT to help address key challenges across the sector by working alongside music departments to support excellence, broaden participation and develop sustainability. This support is focused on activities that demonstrate significant impact and long-term success.

Samuel Hudson, organist and director of music at Worcester Cathedral, said: “We are excited to be introducing an opportunity for professional sopranos to contribute regularly to cathedral music here in Worcester. While opportunities for girl choristers are now rightfully abundant up and down the country, this begins to address the fact that there is perhaps more we could do to bring about opportunities for adult female singers.

“We are deeply thankful to the CMT for this generous grant, which plays a vital role in sustaining the musical life of Worcester Cathedral. This support allows us to continue delivering top-tier vocal training to all our choristers and to maintain a safe, well-equipped environment where every singer can thrive. Our sincere thanks go to the CMT for championing cathedral music here in Worcester and across the nation.”
