WORCESTER MP Tom Collins has met with Olivia Bailey, Minister for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to raise urgent concerns about the state of SEND provision in Worcestershire.
During the meeting, Mr Collins said he highlighted the significant challenges facing local families, children, and young people, emphasising that trust in the SEND system has been badly damaged.
Parents and carers across Worcestershire have expressed that, for too long, the system has resisted, denied, or failed to listen to the needs of those it is meant to support.
He said: “It was really important to me to share with the Minister the reality on the ground in Worcestershire.
“I am really pleased that this Government is putting SEND higher on its agenda and has recognised the challenges.
“I explained the difficulties and constraints we are facing in Worcester but also the vital need for a reset, to start the long journey of rebuilding trust, and putting families at the heart of our policy.
“We also discussed my work in leading the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Family Hubs’ work – I want to see every single family well supported and able to access the services they need quickly and easily.
“No child or family should be left struggling, and I believe we can build something fresh and new that puts real integrated support, connection and community back into our local areas.”
