WORCESTER MP Robin Walker has signed a memorial book as a tribute to the victims of the Holocaust.
Mr Walker signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment in Westminster ahead of Holocaust Memorial Day today (Sunday) to mark the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, the site of the largest mass murder in history.
The theme for this year’s commemorations is ‘Torn from Home’ and after signing the book, Mr Walker said the day was a chance to reflect on the tragic events of the Holocaust.
“As the Holocaust moves from living history, to history, it becomes ever more important that we take the time to remember the victims and also pay tribute to the survivors.”
“I encourage all constituents to mark the day and to join members of our community in the fight against prejudice and intolerance.
“I am particularly pleased local schools often use the opportunity of Holocaust Memorial Day to teach students about the extraordinary stories of human brutality, resistance and survival that still exist today.
“The generation that experienced these horrors will not be with us for much longer and it is vital that we do all we can to record their testimony and learn from them while we still have the opportunity to do so.”
