Motorists warned of road closures

Worcester Editorial 23rd Sep, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

COUNTY highways chiefs have revealed a Worcester road will be closed as part of work on the new Worcester Six Business Park.

Worcester Six, one of the key employment sites identified in Worcestershire, is due to open in autumn next year.

When fully occupied, the site will provide over 5,000 jobs and will become one of the regions’ flagship developments.

The £4million project to upgrade Pershore Lane will provide access to Worcester Six as well as improve traffic flow to Junction 6 of the M5 motorway.

The majority of the highways work to date has been undertaken without any road closures however, the next stage of construction will see roads around the site temporarily closed.

Phase one of the road closures, starting early October and lasting approximately 10 weeks, will take place on the B4636 between A4440 Nunnery Way and the A4538 Pershore Lane.

Phase two will see the road from the A4538 Pershore Lane through to the Crowle Road closed from mid-October for approximately eight weeks.

The works will continue to be managed in order to keep disturbances to a minimum.

One such measure will see traffic diverted onto a temporary carriageway through part of the site to keep the Pershore Lane open but to ensure that construction works can still go ahead.

Coun Simon Geraghty, deputy leader of Worcestershire County Council and cabinet member with responsibility for Economy, Skills and Infrastructure, said: “Worcester Six is one of our four identified ‘game-changer’ sites across the county, which are key to realising the county’s ambition of creating 25,000 new jobs by 2025 and making a step change in our economic potential, as set out in the county’s ten year economic plan.

“It’s fantastic to see plans progressing as part of our World Class Worcestershire vision and we look forward to bringing the W6 development to life.

Gary Woodman, Executive Director of Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “The improvement works for Pershore Lane providing access to Worcester Six, a vital employment site which will bring over 5,000 jobs, and improve the traffic flow to Junction 6 of the M5, were prioritised in the 10-Year Strategic Economic Plan as it is recognised that this will hugely benefit the long-term economy.

“We are working closely with Worcestershire County Council, the highways authority, to keep disruption to a minimum during the highways improvements and thank everyone for their patience during these works which will bring great benefit to the County.”

A map has been produced to ensure residents and commuters are clear on the proposed diversion routes.
