Ministers take look at education and business

THE CITY’S Conservative parliamentary candidate welcomed two ministers to Worcester for a look at how the Government has helped promote education and business.

Robin Walker welcomed the Cities and Universities Minister, Greg Clark, to the University of Worcester showing him The Hive and other improvements.

Mr Walker said: “I was delighted to be able to welcome the Universities Minister to see the wonderful developments that have happened in Worcester over the last five years. We have one of the fastest growing universities in the UK here in Worcester and I am proud of how it has innovated, worked in partnership and contributed to regeneration during my time as MP.

“The University is developing a reputation for excellence in dealing with important issues such as dementia care and providing real sporting opportunities for the wheelchair athlete. These can only add to Worcester’s appeal to students from outside of the local area.”

He also discussed the successful investments into skills and apprenticeships they have made with the Business Minister, Matt Hancock.

They met Mike Ashton, the CEO of the award winning Hereford and Worcester Chamber of Commerce, and several other Worcester business owners and leaders.

Mr Walker said: “The success of local businesses in Worcester in the last few years has been remarkable. With a growing economy, more jobs, and rising pay, our businesses in Worcestershire have a fantastic opportunity to improve on this so long as the recovery stays on track.

“I am hugely proud that local businesses have more than doubled the number of apprenticeships they offer in the last five years and helped to reduce unemployment by more than half, but I want to see them able to achieve even more in the future.

It was great to see Matt listening to their ideas and concerns and setting out such a positive vision of what we can achieve.”
