Mayor lends support to Barbourne community cafe

Worcester Editorial 17th Aug, 2017   0

MAYOR of Worcester Coun Steve McKay was on hand to brew up at the launch of a new community cafe in Barbourne.

Coun McKay was joined by his wife Alison, Mayoress of Worcester, at the opening of Catcha Cuppa at St Stephen’s Church hall.

The cafe is the brainchild of Margaret Mandrell and will run through the summer holidays from 10am to 3.30pm from Monday to Thursday.

Margaret and vicar Rev Andy Todd were on hand to meet the civic couple to officially open the project on a packed day of events which saw local residents lend their support and lunch and cakes served.

Organisers hope the cafe will provide a safe and welcoming space for both families and local people living alone, allow the community to connect and get a nutritious and tasty break.

Should it prove popular, Margaret hopes to continue with the project and expand it in the future.
