MORE than 100 runners laced up their trainers to raise about £3,000 for charity in the city’s full and half marathons.

The event started at Sixways last Sunday (April 12) and saw runners put their best foot forward to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice.

This is the fourth consecutive year for the marathons which were organised by Tempo Events and sponsored by Hewett Recruitment.

Tom Stock, from Worcester AC running club was the first home in the men’s half marathon with a time of one hour and 15 minutes. The winner of the ladies 13.1 mile track was Jenny Livesey who completed it in one hour and 27 minutes.

The winners of the 26.2 mile challenge were Tom Carter, from BRAT, for the men’s race with a time of two hours and 44 minutes and first lady Caroline Hemming who made it in three hours and 23 minutes and for the 100 Marathon Club.

Jodie Brandwood, community fund-raiser at St Richard’s Hospice, said: “Well done and thank you to everyone involved with the Worcester Full and Half Marathon. It was a great day with lots of sunshine and a wind which we were convinced was borderline gale force but that didn’t deter the runners and supporters. Everyone one finished with a smile.

“The money raised will help St Richard’s continue to offer care, comfort, dignity and compassion to our patients and their loved ones. Also a big thank you to our team of volunteers and to event organisers Tempo Events, sponsors Hewett Recruitment and supporters Free Radio.”

The charity support 2,500 patients with life-threatening illnesses and their families every year in their own homes of in their 17-bed Day Hospice Unit.

Race Director, Rob Minton, said: “It was great to see so much support from spectators and the wonderful marshals did a brilliant job throughout the course route. We’re also delighted to have worked with St. Richard’s Hospice again and our title sponsors Hewett Recruitment.

“This event continues to put Worcester on the national running map and we’re already planning on how to make next year’s race bigger and better.”
