A WOMAN was dragged into a city centre alleyway and sexually assaulted sparking a huge police manhunt for the attacker.

The 22-year-old victim had left Tramps nightclub in Angel Place yesterday (Sunday) when she was approached by a man near to The Crown about 2.30am.

He then grabbed her and dragged her down the alleyway to the rear of Angel Chef where he sexually assaulted her.

The offender is described as Asian, in his mid 20s, with black scruffy hair which was longer at the sides and he was clean shaven with a scar above his upper lip.

He had a thin face and was of an athletic and muscular build. He was wearing blue jeans, brown boots and a dark coloured bomber jacket.

During the assault, the victim struggled against him – possibly scratching his face.

The attacker walked off in the direction of Shaw Street after the incident.

PC Gemma Birchley, the investigating officer, said: “We are taking this sexual assault very seriously.

“Crimes of this nature are not tolerated and we are eager to trace the man responsible for sexually assaulting a vulnerable young woman.

“If anyone has information they can contact me directly on 101 extension 67006 or by speaking to the independent charity, Crimestoppers, in confidence by calling 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org.”
