Making a colourful contribution

Worcester Editorial 31st Jan, 2021   0

A WORCESTER provider of social housing and care services has signed up to support a county community event this summer.

Sanctuary Group is set to sponsor an elephant sculpture for Worcester’s Big Parade, an eight-week public art trail that will add a splash of colour to city streets, parks and public spaces.

A Wild in Art event being brought to Worcester by St Richard’s Hospice, the trail will also help raise funds for patients affected by life limiting illnesses and their loved ones. The project builds on the hugely successful Worcester Stands Tall giraffe trail in 2018, which saw giraffe sculptures displayed across the city before raising £210,000 for St Richard’s at auction.

Sanctuary Group Chief Executive, Craig Moule, said: “As a local employer, we have a proud history of driving investment into the city and supporting local community initiatives so we’re delighted to be a part of Worcester’s Big Parade.

“Events like the parade have a wonderful ability to bring all sections of the community together and we’re sure the beautifully designed herd will get everyone smiling again.”

Large elephants will be joined by around 35 calf sculptures designed and decorated by students and teachers in local schools. The baby elephants will also be on show for the eight weeks during the trail.

Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Sanctuary Group to the parade as a new sponsor this year. It’s a brilliant employee engagement opportunity for local businesses and we’re sure the Sanctuary team will take great pride in their elephant and being a part of a truly memorable community event.”

While all elephant calves have now been adopted by local schools and community groups, a few large elephant sponsorships remain. Call 01905 763963 and ask for Sara Matthews, e-mail [email protected] or visit https://worcestersbigparade.co.uk/get-involved for more.
