Lions club schedule is a whirl of events

Worcester Editorial 10th Sep, 2016 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

CARING members of the Worcester Lions Club have been out and about in the community at a host of events.

Members ran fund-raising stalls at Bedwardine Village Fête and Warndon Villages Summer Fête before welcoming visitors from Europe.

Several Lions enjoyed a meal at the Barn Owl to welcome Yoep Kortekaas from the Netherlands and Akos Senviczki from Hungary.

The pair stopped over in Worcester before travelling north to join other young people from around the world at this year’s British Isles and Ireland Lions International Youth Centre in Scotland.

During their stay in Worcester, and with the help of members from Droitwich, Bromsgrove and Kidderminster Lions Clubs Yoep and Akos had a very busy schedule of visits and events.

A trip to Stratford-upon-Avon, a day on the Severn Valley Railway, visits to Worcester Cathedral and bell tower and to London for the day were among the programme of entertainment.

On the evening before their departure north they attended a skittles evening at the newly built Archdales 73 Club, once again being joined by many they had met during their visit.

The aim of the centre is to promote international understanding among young people of many different nationalities and cultures, encouraging racial harmony and an awareness of the needs of others.

The young people between the ages of 18 and 22 who attend the camp are sponsored by their local Lions Club’s throughout the world.

The club is always on the lookout for new members and every penny raised from events is donated to good causes.
