SHADOW Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson dropped in to lessons with leaders and pupils of Oldbury Park Primary School.

Ms Phillipson met with Guy Shears, CEO of Central Region Schools Trust and Lee Card, principal at Oldbury Park Primary School to discuss how the Trust has been implementing their strategy to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to unlock their full potential.

During her visit, Ms Phillipson also met with some of the classes within the school to hear about what they have been learning and to discuss the vision and values which has been embedded within the school, including their ethos of ‘believing in best’.

The children were also given the opportunity to ask Ms Phillipson about her role within the Labour Party and as an MP in Sunderland.

Mr Shears said: “It was a true pleasure to meet with the Shadow Education Secretary and to be able to discuss the work we have undertaken to ensure we are levelling the playing field for children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“We are also pleased she was able to meet with some of our pupils and see what this teaching looks like in practice.”
