CONSERVATIVE chiefs won their bid to oust Labour group leader Coun Adrian Gregson from his role as deputy leader of Worcester City Council.
The long-serving city Labour chief was elected as deputy Mayor of Worcester during the meeting which saw the city’s Tories bring an end to the four-year ‘power-sharing’ arrangement introduced while neither of the main Guildhall parties had a majority.
Leader Coun Marc Bayliss made the move within days of his party earning a majority of one at the Guildhall in the local elections which saw Labour reduced to 11 of the 35 councillors.
Fellow Conservative Coun Chris Mitchell will now serve as deputy leader of Worcester City Council while all of the council’s committees will now be chaired by Tories following further changes approved by the majority of councillors.
Coun Bayliss will chair the Policy and Resources Committee, effectively the city council’s cabinet, with former chair and Green Party leader Coun Louis Stephen reverting to a vice chair role alongside Coun Gregson.
