Kings kids lace up for May Day charity walk

Worcester Editorial 25th May, 2017   0

CARING Kings School youngsters were among hundreds of walkers to lace up their trainers for the popular Kings May Day charity walk.

The event is held every two years and sees walkers put their best foot forward from Hanbury Wharf to the Kings Senior School in Worcester via King’s Hawford.

Pupils, staff, parents and governors helped raise cash for this year’s two chosen charities; St Richard’s Hospice and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

King’s has supported the hospice in the past however this year’s event was particularly poignant as the school remembered Peter Iddon who spent his entire career at King’s from 1980 until his death in 2016.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital was chosen by a year five youngster who had first-hand experience of the care provided by the hospital.

King’s senior pupils from year nine to sixth form and their parents tackled the seven mile leg of the walk from Hanbury Wharf to King’s Hawford before a final five mile leg back to the school which saw them joined by year seven and eight pupils and children from the junior school.
