CHRISTMAS Day may be more than a month away but youngsters at a village school near Worcester have already got into the festive spirit.

Pupils at Grimley and Holt CE Primary School have been busy filling shoe-boxes with a variety of gifts before they are sent to underprivileged children around the world.

Their efforts are all part of Samaritan’s Purse’s campaign, called Operation Christmas Child, which aims to bring joy and smiles to a child whose life has been affected by poverty, disaster, disease or war.

Suzanne Hayden, of Grimley and Holt CE School, said they had packed the boxes full of small toys, pens, sweets and even toothpaste.

“For the children and parents this is an important part of the run-up to Christmas as it is such a great cause,” she said.

“Our children are reminded of how other children around the world do not have as much as they do.”
