WORCESTER commuters can take a trip on the Salt Road on new-look 144 buses which link the Faithful City to Birmingham.

Roman Centurions and representatives from First Bus were on hand at the Guildhall yesterday for the launch of the route which celebrates the route and the area’s heritage.

All of the buses now boast new seats, along with USB charging points, free WiFi and screens and audio announcements detailing the next stop.

The theme dates back to Roman times when salt was transported between Worcester and Birmingham on the route.

Nigel Eggleton, First’s managing director, said the new services would run every 15 minutes during the day.

The last bus from Birmingham is 9.45pm on weekdays and 11.25pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The last bus from Worcester is 8.15pm on weekdays, 10pm to Birmingham and 11.15pm to Droitwich and Bromsgrove.
