Jobs safe at nPower Worcester base

ENERGY giant nPower has confirmed they are not planning to lose any jobs at its Worcester base and instead will be creating 70 new roles in the city over the next year.

Fears were raised over potential job losses after the energy giant, which is owned by German electricity and gas giant RWE, confirmed it would axe more than 2,400 employees from their UK workforce by 2018 after making a loss of nearly £100million last year.

However, in a statement to the Observer, nPower said there won’t be any jobs axed at their Bridgwater Road office in the city after previous speculation that jobs there were not safe.

Instead the energy provider will be adding 70 ‘energy services’ roles to their Worcester workforce over the course of the next year.

nPower currently employs 600 people in Worcester, mainly in areas such as PR, human resources, communications finance and energy services.

The drastic cut in their workforce follows the energy firm posting a full-year loss of £99million in 2015. Npower also lost 351,000 customers in the same year and has also been dogged by complaints over billing.

Energy regulator Ofgem also slapped the energy provider with a £26million fine after failing to deal with their customer’s complaints correctly.

An nPower spokesperson said: “We’re not planning to lose any Worcester based employees. Over the course of this year we will be creating 70 jobs.

Worcester’s MP called the news ‘delightful’ and welcomed the jobs that will be created.

“They are real taking the quality of the workforce even further.

“I’m delightful that they are taking on more jobs in Worcester.

“It’s great to have an international company putting more resource in to the city.”
