Jobs boost at Nunnery Park

Worcester Editorial 6th Jul, 2016 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

WORK has started on the major Nunnery Park development which could see more than 500 jobs created in Worcester.

The 200-acre park will be built by St Modwen on land to the east of Nunnery Way, providing more than 240,000sq ft of employment land after council chiefs gave the proposal the green light.

Construction has also begun on a dedicated ‘left in and left out’ junction off Nunnery Way to provide more direct access to the site and pedestrian and cycle links are also in the pipeline.

Work will then begin on the nine units being built as part of the first phase of the scheme.

Contracts have already been exchanged to bring a Greene King family pub and restaurant and drive-through KFC to the site and a number of other local and national companies have already expressed an interest in some of the remaining units. Contracts are expected to be signed in due course.

Julie Rossiter, senior asset manager at St Modwen, said Nunnery Park was a hugely significant development for Worcester, creating a mix of trade, business and industrial units, as well as the pub, restaurant and vehicle showroom.

“We are pleased works are now underway on site and we will continue to work closely with Worcester City Council and the county council to bring new businesses and jobs to Worcester as the scheme progresses.”

The news of the 500 jobs comes at a good time for new employment in the city – Aldi is opening its new supermarket tomorrow, bringing another 40 posts and Waitrose, which opened last week, has created a further 130.
