Inspiring Oscar delivers true spirit of Christmas

BRAVE Oscar Saxelby-Lee was given a thank you to remember by shopping chiefs with a visit to see Father Christmas.

The inspiring six-year-old switched on Worcester’s lights virtually last week and grateful Visit Worcester bosses asked Oscar and his mum Olivia and dad Jamie what he would like as an early present from Father Christmas.

The Visit Worcester team were delighted to buy some toys from Toytown in Crowngate and arranged for Father Christmas to make a special undercover and socially distanced delivery to Oscar last night in the Crowngate sleigh as Oscar switched on the centre’s own lights.

Embodying the true spirit of Christmas, Oscar and his parents only accepted one of the Visit Worcester presents and asked for the others to be donated to the paediatric oncology ward at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital where Oscar was treated.

Sam McCarthy of Visit Worcester said: “We were only too delighted to make Oscar’s wish come true – he wanted to pass on the spirit of Christmas to some other children who are still being looked after by the amazing paediatric oncology team.

“Mike Lloyd from Crowngate was able to sneak in and safely watch Santa deliver the gifts from us. What a wonderful way to start Christmas month.”
