In the saddle to help raise cash

GTECH is hosting a coffee morning to help four women raise as much money as possible for three cancer charities before they fly off for their cycling challenge.

Anne Brown, from Defford, along with three friends will be taking on the Women V Cancer 450km cycling challenge from Vietnam to Cambodia next February after her twin sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year.

The team will be hosting their latest fund-raiser on Friday (December 9) from 10am to midday at Gtech’s showroom at the Shire Business Park in Warndon.

There will be coffee and cake on offer, as well as a Gtech E-Bike up for grabs after the firm donated it as a prize for the raffle. All the money raised will be going to Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.

Anne Brown said: “I decided to take on the Women V Cancer 450km cycling challenge from Vietnam to Cambodia after my twin sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year.

“I called myself the Pink Pedaler because I was known in my village and surrounding area as the lady in pink when I began jogging and cycling in my hi-vis pink jacket and bright pink trainers.

“We are mature ladies in our nifty fifties and we all have family and friends who have been taken or touched by these terrible diseases.

“We were not fit, or cyclists, before starting our training regime so it has been a wonderful journey of fun and laughter as we have developed our fitness and fund raising skills.”
