ARTIST impressions have been revealed of what the Southern Link Road will look like once it has been completely dualled.

The major project is now into phase three of the planned works which includes dualling the carriageway between the Whittington and Ketch roundabouts, as well as the installation of new railway and bridleway bridges.

Currently, improvements are being carried out to Norton roundabout and the creation of a dedicated left-hand turn from Whittington Road, from Junction 7 of the M5, and the current request for motorists to give way.

Overnight closures are now needed to carry out extensive surfacing works, including widening sections of the Southern Link Road together with kerbing and drainage works.

The road, between the Ketch and Whittington roundabouts, will be closed from 9pm until 6am from Monday, November 28 until Friday, December 23, excluding weekends.

Traffic will be diverted via London Road and Bath Road, and local residents will be able to access St Peters Estate from Bath Road and Timberdine.

Coun Ken Pollock, Cabinet Member for Economy, Skills and Infrastructure, said: “The A4440 Southern Link Road is vital for Worcestershire’s continued prosperity and economic growth.

“Representing one of the largest transport infrastructure upgrades the County has seen for several years, once complete it will reduce congestion times both in the city centre and wider road networks, improve employment opportunities, reduce journey times and journey time reliability.

“We recognise that the overnight works will be an inconvenience to drivers but we have always aimed to keep overnight construction to a minimum.

“These latest night closures are essential to the completion of the scheme.”
