Husband honours wife's memory with charity donation

A KIND-HEARTED husband has sold his wife’s paintings to raise more than £2,000 for the charity that cared for her.

Roland Allcock displayed the paintings created by his wife, Nicky, at her funeral last month and offered them for sale to their friends and family, making £2,070 for St Richard’s Hospice who cared for her during her illness.

She worked for Royal Worcester in the 1970s whilst painting as an armature artist under her maiden name, Nicky Paynter. While fighting breast cancer she worked on several abstract pieces with a ‘Targeting Cancer’ theme, her husband donated one of these paintings to the charity to be displayed in the Day Hospice where she is still fondly remembered by the staff.

“It was a huge support to Nicky to know that St Richard’s Hospice was there to offer care and support when she needed it and we were both very grateful that she was able to spend her last days at the hospice,” he said.

“Nicky’s art meant such a lot to her and it seemed the perfect idea to raise some money for the hospice by holding an exhibition and sale of some of her work at her funeral.”

Every year St Richard’s Hospice supports about 2,600 families with the specialist palliative care they offer. Patients are treated at the Day hospice, in their own homes or in the 17-bed In-Patient-Unit by specially trained staff where some can spend their last few moments and support is offered tot he family.

They are an independent charity and rely on donations to continue their work.
