Hundreds sign up to run for hospice

Worcester Editorial 18th Apr, 2016 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

HUNDREDS of keen runners have already secured their place to compete in the Worcester Full and Half Marathons in May.

Raising funds for St Richard’s Hospice, marathon organisers Tempo Events are inviting others to take the opportunity to get fit and support their local hospice.

Both the full and half marathon races will start and finish at Worcester Sixways at 9.30am on Sunday, May 22 where runners will take a scenic, rural route heading east from the city.

The half marathon runners complete one loop and full marathon runners take on a second loop before the last downhill mile to the finish line.

Rob Minton, Race Director at Tempo Events, said: “The Worcester Marathon is growing in popularity each year and the people of Worcester are really getting behind the event. It’s a great race with a wonderful atmosphere, taking in a lovely scenic route, and is an ideal opportunity to take part in a marathon on our own doorstep.

“We’re delighted that so many runners have already signed up for this popular event, and we are confident that we will reach 1,000 participants very soon.”

Jodi Brandwood, Challenges and Events fund-raiser at St Richard’s Hospice said: “We are delighted that so many of the runners, 180 so far, have also chosen to fund-raise for the hospice.

“Last year, hospice supporters taking part in the Worcester Marathon raised over £5,000, helping us to continue to provide specialist care for patients with life-limiting illnesses and support their loved ones.”

All runners will receive an event t-shirt and a medal for taking part. There are dedicated prizes for the first, second and third male and female finishers, plus a team prize and corporate team prize.

The race is suitable for all standards of runner and will be professionally chip timed.

Entries are open now and registration is available online at www.tempoevents.co.uk.
