How your votes can open up church to all

Worcester Editorial 24th Jun, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

STAFF at a Worcester church are urging Observer readers to vote for them in a bid to make sure their doors are open to everyone.

St Mark’s Church on Orchard Street, has been shortlisted to receive a £19,000 from the One Family Foundation and needs votes to win the cash.

They hope to be one of eight projects across the country to receive the donations which will be put towards converting the steps at the front of the church so the building is accessible for everyone.

The church wardens and other members of staff have tried to use a temporary ramp but found it did not sufficiently suit some of the users’ needs.

The conversion would see a proper ramp installed up to the front of the church and they hope the change will mean the venue can be used more by the community.

Jan Vale, the PCC Clerk at St Mark’s, said: “Our church is a great space, but at the moment, it’s really difficult for quite a few people to get into it.

“We want to hold coffee mornings, sales, and other community events inside the church and it’s vital that everyone who wants to can easily access the building.

“Please consider voting for us to receive this money – it will enable work to start immediately.”

To vote for St Mark’s Church go to https://foundation.onefamily.com/ and search for ‘disable access’ in the community awards section.

Anyone who has any problem registering or voting should call 0800 169 4321.
