'Horizontal' rainbow captured near Malvern's hills

THEY dominate the district’s landscape and are best known for their spring water but could Malvern’s hills have magical powers?

Clubbercise Malvern posted these images of an apparently flat rainbow seemingly lower than the iconic landmark.

The riot of colour appears more horizontal than regular rainbows and was captured by the group on Facebook.

“Well I’ve never seen this before #flatrainbow #Malvernhills #wow #magic #malvern,” fitness trainer Laura posted on the site.

Rainbows are formed by rays of light from the sun hitting water which reflects some of the light.

They are visible when the sun is shining behind you and the water is in front of you.

It may be a circumhorizontal arc which is an optical phenomenon that is rare to see in northern Europe.
