A KIND-HEARTED youngster has collected more than 30 bags of everyday items for the homeless after seeing someone sleeping rough in a Worcester doorway
Holly Clarke, who is just 12, is going for her black belt at Verve Kickboking and, as part of that, was tasked with undertaking a charity or community event.
Remembering the person she had seen in Worcester, the Droitwich youngster asked family and friends to donate items, setting the 30-bag target which she has now surpassed.
She has also done a car boot sale to help fund the waterproof bags which contain a new t-shirt, £2 food voucher, socks, deodorant, shower gel, wet wipes, toothbrush and toothpaste and flannel.
Holly has handed over the first 35 bags to Maggs Day Centre, a city charity which offers those who are homeless a place to stay for the day, help, advice, support and essential everyday items.
They were collected in just three weeks and Holly is now well on her way to her new target of 50.
Mum Stacey said: “We are so proud of her and what she has achieved and we want to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped Holly.”
Mel Kirk, manager of Maggs Day Centre, said: “It’s amazing what Holly has done and the fact she is only 12 years old is amazing.
“The bags are so well thought out including baby wipes, tooth paste, a toothbrush and more.
“She sat down and thought of exactly what they need. “
She said the charity was so thankful, adding the bags would now be distributed to the rough sleepers.
“Our clothing project is wholly reliant on donations, so without them we would not be able to provide clothes and warmth for people in need.
“For a 12-year-old to do this and have such social awareness is phenomenal.”
