HIGHWAYS chiefs will remove debris from under Worcester Bridge as the city returns to normal following flooding on the River Severn.
Debris which is currently resting against the bridge will be cleared tomorrow evening (Sunday) from 5pm to 10pm using an excavator and other vehicles.
As a result the road over the bridge will be closed in coming inbound from St John’s into Worcester city centre.
Both lanes will be closed for five hours to allow the debris which has been washed down the River Severn during the recent floods to be cleared.
A 360 degree long arm grab will sit on Worcester Bridge on Sunday evening and will work alongside boats with chainsaw operatives to remove the debris.
Jon Fraser from Worcestershire County Council highways, said: “We’ve been working closely with our partners at Worcester City Council and the Environment Agency during the recent flood event, and monitoring the river levels.
“We’re now at a point with the river receding where it is safe to remove the debris. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the upcoming closure.”
There will be a signed diversion during the closure directing motorists to use Carrington Bridge.
One lane will also be closed westbound heading towards St Johns but access will still be possible.
