Help for Ukrainian residents to set up new city businesses

Rob George 20th Nov, 2022   0

UKRAINIAN residents who left their war-torn country and were welcomed to Worcester earlier this year, are being offered help to set up their own businesses.

Worcester City Council, in partnership with the Business and Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC) at The Hive, are organising a series of workshops on how to set up and run a business in this country.

The workshops will give an overview of the legal requirements for running a business, financial management, selling and marketing and renting commercial premises. Attendees will also have chance to find out about the range of help available, including the five-day Enterprising Worcestershire business start-up course.

Monday’s workshop (November 21) between 10am and 12midday, will be run by Perrigo Consultants and will cover business finances and taxation.

At a final workshop on Wednesday (November 30) between 10am and 1pm, attendees will learn about using social media from Online Media Works and Jason Clines, commercial partner at local property agents Fisher German, will talk about what is involved in renting commercial premises. Representatives from business support providers will give an overview of the help available.

All workshops take place at the Hive library and a Ukrainian translator will be present.

Coun Lucy Hodgson, chair of Worcester City Council’s Place and Economic Development Committee, said: “We are pleased to be working with the BIPC at the Hive to organise these workshops to offer support for our new Ukrainian residents who are thinking about starting a business in Worcester.

“We’d like to thank all the local businesses who are giving their time free of charge to help us to do this.”

Anyone interested in attending will need to book via the events page on the BIPC website www.worcestershire.gov.uk/BIPC.
