MUSIC-LOVING residents at a Worcester care home held a Eurovision party for residents and pupils from a local school who are among a group of budding filmmakers featuring the home in a film about a Ukrainian child’s experience of moving to Britain.
Fernhill House, an all-inclusive luxury care home which is a part of the Berkley Care Group, invited the Tibberton and Hindlip Year 4 radio club, and the executive headteacher of Tibberton First School Gromski, to gather some footage in the home for their short film about Andrii, a fellow student.
During the school’s visit in addition to enjoying music from last week’s Eurovision Song Contest, pupils and residents took part in a day of Ukrainian themed educational, cooking and singing activities.
Andrii joined Hindlip First School in Worcester from Ukraine last summer and his classmates are looking to capture insight into his personal journey of moving to the UK and settling in to his new school. The film also gathers the perspectives of the other students who have helped welcome Andrii to Hindlip First.
The radio club is formed of year 4 students from the Hindlip First and Tibberton First schools and is hosted by Julia Letts, who also visited Fernhill House. Julia is an experienced recording and interviewing specialist and has provided support for local schools on a variety of projects.
The short film will be released on both Hindlip First School’s and Tibberton CE First School’s websites in the coming weeks.
During the visit, pupils joined the residents to learn common Ukrainian phrases, bake Ukrainian biscuits and to enjoy songs being played at the Eurovision Song Contest, with the staff at Fernhill House being dressed in their best 1980s outfits.
Commenting on the celebrations, Fernhill House’s customer relations manager Frankie Edwards said: “The enthusiasm and creativity displayed by the students in creating a film about Andrii’s journey from Ukraine to our school was inspiring.
“It was heart-warming to witness the genuine friendships formed between Andrii and his classmates as they supported him in settling into his new life in the UK.”

“It was a joyous celebration filled with music, laughter, and togetherness, as we came together to enjoy the Eurovision entries and embrace the vibrant spirit of the event.”
