Health app a day could keep doctor away

A HEALTH and Wellbeing App Library has been launched by doctors from NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group.

And the number of apps available to support health and wellbeing is continuously growing as people become more digitally aware.

The library aims to help people make an informed decision on the best apps for their needs.

It contains hundreds of apps that are independently reviewed and clinically accredited by a team of healthcare professionals.

The system was created in partnership with ORCHA, the world’s leading health app evaluation and distribution organisation.

Dr Ian Roper, GP IT Lead at the CCG said: “With the public now increasingly demanding and obtaining information and advice in the digital format, this development will allow patients across Herefordshire and Worcestershire to access trustworthy and effective health apps.

“It also gives healthcare colleagues the confidence to make recommendations, in the knowledge that these apps have been approved for use across the two counties.”

However he warns that health and wellbeing apps do not replace healthcare services and should only be used to support an individuals’ care.

If someone has a health concern, they must contact their GP or pharmacist as the NHS is still available during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Health and Wellbeing App Library can be accessed at https://hwhealthapps.orcha.co.uk/ and will continue to be updated as new apps are developed.
