Hat event gives charity head start

A WORCESTER charity is inviting people to ‘Keep Your Hats On’ and raise money for families living with the effects of brain injury.

Headway Worcestershire is appealing to businesses, schools, and community organisations to get creative for Hats for Headway Day, which will take place on Friday, May 13, as part of Action for Brain Injury Week.

People can get involved and support the fundraiser by sponsoring a friend to wear a funny hat or organisations to hold mini-competitions with a prize for the best or funniest head gear.

Several members of Headway Worcestershire have already opted to make their own hat as part of a craft workshop the charity runs to aid rehabilitation after brain injury.

As well as helping a worthy cause while having fun, the fundraiser will be part of a nationwide competition with a prize for ‘best hat’.

Julia Protesaru, from Headway Worcestershire, said: “We received a fantastic response from the community for last year’s Hats for Headway Day and we hope to make this year even better.

“This is a really fun day and we hope lots of people get involved. But there’s a serious side, too. Brain injury can have a devastating impact upon the lives of individuals and their families, affecting everything they do, think and feel.

“We want people to know that by taking part in Hats for Headway Day, they’ll be supporting our work to improve the lives of local people affected by brain injury, helping them to rebuild their lives and regain their independence.”

For more information, contact Headway Worcestershire on 01905 729729 or e-mail [email protected]. People can donate by sending a text message to 70070 with the text “LPKM22 £1” to donate £1.

To enter the UK-wide competition, tweet a photograph or video of yourself wearing a funny hat using the hashtag #HatsForHeadway or via the website at www.headway.org.uk
