Gifts to treasure at the cathedral

Worcester Editorial 11th Dec, 2019   0

STAINED glass windows, carved animals, angels and dragons are all up for adoption in a major fund-raising drive by Worcester Cathedral to help pay for conservation work at the county landmark.

Dating back from 1084, the cathedral boasts a wealth of treasures including a stained glass window featuring Ethelflaeda, Lady of Mercia, daughter of King Alfred the Great.

She and her husband AEthelred fortified Worcester and granted the Cathedral rights of lordship over the city.

A catalogue of all the items can be found at www.worcestercathedral.co.uk.

Those adopting a piece of history will get a presentation pack which includes a photo of the chosen item, a certificate of adoption and a dedication in the Cathedral’s donor’s book, which will include the opportunity to make a dedication to commemorate a special event, anniversary or in memory of a loved one.

Prices start from £25 and go up to £500. For more information visit the Cathedral website or call 01905 732946.
