Get trainers on for cancer fight

Worcester Editorial 4th Jul, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

RESIDENTS are being urged to lace up their trainers to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Relay for Life is taking place overnight at The RGS The Grange School, on Green Lane, on Saturday, September 12.

Organisers are encouraging as many people to sign up as soon as possible to give them the longest time to fund-raise.

During the event team members will take it in turns to walk around a track non-stop throughout the night. Each participant will take turns to rest, eat and sleep in their tents that can be set up close by.

It is free for the community to go watch and join in the festival atmosphere. The organisers have partnered with Youthcomm Radio and there will be music from Worcester Concert Brass, singer Laura Sankey, Worcester Ukulele Club, three piece band Prism, singing sensation Pippa Longthorne and Steve Maitland as a Michael Buble tribute to keep the teams motivated.

As the sun sets, the atmosphere will quieten and a Candle of Hope ceremony will begin.

Specially made bags decorated with touching messages and containing candles that will be lit to commemorate or celebrate loved ones around The RGS The Grange.

Lezley Moran, volunteer chair of Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life in Worcester, said: “Relay For Life is a great way to spend time with your friends, family and colleagues while raising money for a seriously worth-while cause.

“Everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer. Taking part in Relay For Life is a positive way to be part of your local community and help make a stand against cancer.”
