A WORCESTER charity is calling all cyclists to take part in a 3,500 minute spin-a-thon.
Headway, a charity for people living with brain injuries, will hold the event at the Worcester branch of Nuffield Health during Bike Week between Monday (June 13) and Wednesday (June 15).
The 3,500 minute challenge, which represents the 350 people with brain injury helped by the charity every year, will also offer goodie bags for people taking part.
Jenny McCarthy, Duty Manager at Nuffield Health, said: “Our members are always keen to take up challenges for charity and we feel this is a great and fun way to do it.
“We run nine spin classes per week and they are always packed. We are also hoping that our popular cycle-to-work scheme might grow even more during the summer and beyond it.”
The Slug & Lettuce Worcester will be hosting the spin-a-thon during the second half of the week, from Thursday (June 16) until Saturday (June 18), are encouraging customers to “spin for their appetites”, and help complete the goal.
Julia Protesaru, Fundraising Manager at Headway, said: “Bike week is another opportunity to promote the good work of Headway as well as our educational project on cycling helmets ‘Safeheads’ aimed at children. Brain injuries are a major cause of acquired disability in young people.
“We want children to know of the importance of appropriate head protection, and how important it is to wear one. We are hoping that people will volunteer to take part in this fun event, even if they only spin for 10 minutes.”
Anybody can get involved in the free spin-a-thon for any amount of time at the Slug and Lettuce, Worcester, June 16 to 18 from 10am until 7pm.
